One of Washington State’s Best Places for Off-Roading

Evans Creek Off-Road Vehicle Area is located nearby Mount Rainier. It’s just over an hour south of Seattle, Washington. The area is well maintained and has a nearby campground. Offering over 45 miles of trails. It’s the perfect location for novices and amateurs, but also offers some expert trails.

Hours of Operation

Evans Creek isn’t open year round, but is open 24 hours while it is open. Evans Creek is open from April to December, so it can be enjoyed for most of the year.


Evans Creek is located within the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, which is south of Buckley, Washington. To get to Evans Creek from Buckley follow the directions below:

• Head south on SR-165 for 18 miles
• Veer left on FS-7920 to Evans Creek Campground

Vehicles Allowed

Most types of off-road vehicle are permitted at Walker Valley Off-Road Vehicle Area and include:

  • Motorcycles

  • Lifted Trucks

  • Dune Buggys

Since Evans Creek is inside of a national forest it’s possible to encounter other outdoor enthusiasts such as: hikers, bikers, families, horseback riders, and even dogs.

Vehicle Restrictions & Guidelines

Vehicles are restricted to a maximum width of 72 inches and limits noise to 105 dB. You are required to have a spark arrestor on all vehicles.

Trail Types

Evans Creek Off-Road Vehicle Area ranges from 2000 to 4500 feet elevation, so you can expect many steep hills. The trails are mostly single track and beaten down. There is some mud and water crossings. The majority of the area is within the trees, but there are several vistas which open up to offer excellent views of Mount Rainier.

Costs and Permits

You need to purchase a day pass to use Evans Creek and they can be purchased online, by calling 1-800-270-7504, or be purchased at the Chevron Gas Station in Buckley.


Evans Creek Off-Road Vehicle Area has a primitive campground located nearby the trailhead. The campground has 23 rustic sites. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring. None of the sites have electrical hookups or garbage service. There’s also toilets and a pump for water.
